Documentaire 42 minutes
Shards of the world and fragments of life, between Japan and the Rom’s community, come together and respond to each other in a frenetic montage that is both gentle and rebellious.
The title comes from a Tunisian newspaper called El Shuruuk, and I started making this edit at that time, recreating my story in the daily newspaper. I took some images that I documented for 5 years, across the world. I started to make an edit, regardless of the logic of narration, mixing places and time. Shuruuk means dawn, but it can be translated literally as rising in the east, like this movement of population, from east to west.
This film is the story of this movement and the resilience of people in exile.
